Guests of Chan Chich Lodge will be able to channel their inner Indiana Jones this June when Dr. Brett Houk, associate professor at Texas Tech University, and his team continue their excavations in the Upper Plaza.

Chan Chich Lodge is the world’s only eco-lodge set within a 3,000 year old Maya plaza, which was once part of a thriving ancient city—home to one of the oldest royal Maya tombs in Belize.

Dr. Houk will lead a team of archaeologists and field researchers studying the foundations of divine kingship and the growth of Chan Chich’s royal acropolis, and you’ll be able to observe their work and ask questions. The archeological team will be excavating in the Upper Plaza, just a short walk from the lodge, exposing part of a 2,300 year old building buried in the plaza.

Guests of the lodge are also invited to sit in on lectures by the project staff, which this year includes three PhDs, and later stop by the archaeological field lab in nearby Gallon Jug to see what kinds of artifacts have been unearthed.

Expeditions will run June 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and are FREE for guests staying at Chan Chich Lodge.  Group size per day limited to 16.  Book your spot at [email protected] or call +1-877-279-5726.
